Crystallizing an Artwork Idea
The previous morning, I broke a glass. It was strange because whenever I decide to go back to Japan, I often break saucers and glasses. The same thing happened last time as well. I went to a movie theater and watched a Dutch movie called Het meisje met het rode haar. It was quite an old movie that was made in 1981. I could not understand all of the conversations, but while watching the movie, I was thinking about how to create a new artwork. I visited the bar My Way. I met a man named Barry. He showed me photos of his hobby, fishing. He had caught incredibly large fish. He bought me a beer. I had kopstootje, which means “headbutt.” It is a traditional drinking style that combines Heineken and jenever. In the movie, there was a scene in which people were drinking jenever, so I wanted to drink it as well. Finally, I found a concrete idea for a new artwork, and I immediately experimented with it at home. The visual perfectly matched my image and concept. I was so excited that I drank too much. This is just an excuse, though. In the first place, I drink every night without any reason.
