An Interview and a Movie
I went to Alkmaar by train. I visited a language school called Vonk, which is run by the Dutch government. I arrived there around 3 pm. Coincidentally, I ran into Umi, a Middle Eastern man whom I had met at another language school. We caught up with each other. I had an introductory meeting with a Dutch coordinator. She was friendly and polite, so I enjoyed talking with her. I hope I will get the opportunity to take a class, as I am still on the waiting list, but the course seemed quite suitable for me. After that, I went to a movie theater and watched a film called “The Cycle of Love”. It was a funny yet serious documentary. An Indian man who was born into the untouchable caste was trying to travel to Sweden by bicycle to meet the woman he loved. He had no idea how far Sweden was from India. Towards the end, I even shed a few tears. It was an incredible film. I went to a bar called ‘t Ossehoofd. They were about to have a bingo night, so the place was messy and chaotic. I moved on to another bar called Piraten. I noticed that the customer sitting next to me was drinking something unfamiliar. I asked him about it, and he told me it was called Jutter, a Dutch liquor. I returned home and cooked some leftover pork belly with plenty of spaghetti for dinner.
