Revising Etiquette through a Poster
I could not tolerate my father’s daily behavior, so I created an etiquette poster and put it on the restroom wall, like the one below:
Stop Spitting Phlegm
No one enjoys hearing the sound of someone spitting phlegm. It is especially nauseating during meals. If you have persistent phlegm, please see a doctor.
Do Not Spit Phlegm in the Toilet
The toilet is not a place for spitting phlegm. It is disrespectful to the deity of the restroom.
Close Doors Quietly
Handling objects with care is a basic adult courtesy.
Look at the Person When They Speak to You
Making eye contact when someone speaks to you is a fundamental human decency.
Listen Carefully and Respond Politely
If you do not listen to others, they will not listen to you.
Do Not Laugh at the TV—Laugh with People
Television encourages passive behavior and numbs your thinking. It is not true laughter. Instead, engage with the people around you, share moments from the day, find joy in the little things, and smile gently together.
I hope this will help improve my father’s manners. Anyway, I went to Komeda Coffee to read some books and write a blog article. I wrote a bit, but I have not found a good topic yet. I walked around and then visited the standing bar Tombo. It was my first time there, but I did not feel comfortable, so I moved on to Sanaya. The bar owner suggested I attend a piano and clarinet concert next month, and I accepted her offer. While I was drinking, an elderly woman came in. I had met her last year because she owns a bar called Twins. Her face looks quite artificial, so I could not forget it. I returned home, but my father was watching TV at a loud volume, and I could not bear to stay, so I went out again. I visited my regular bar, Ajia-tei. I had some small dishes and smoked a cigarette for the first time in two or three months. I bought the owner a beer, and he gave me a new item on the menu: shoyu ramen. It was delicious. I came back home around 11 pm and went straight to bed.
