Lost Baggage

I arrived at Schiphol Airport around 3:30 pm. There was a long queue, even though I have a Dutch residence permit. I had to wait more than an hour longer than usual. I was going to collect my checked baggage, but it had been left behind in Shanghai, where I had a connecting flight. I had to file a missing baggage report through the KLM website. I was exhausted, so I visited the bar inside the airport. The atmosphere at the bar called Rembrandt’s had changed since my last visit. It was less appealing than before. I went back home and reunited with my landlords, a couple. They offered me dinner. It consisted of very simple traditional Dutch dishes. The dessert was vla. I brought a bottled beer from my room that they had given me for my birthday. We talked about several topics, including some serious ones. I asked them about recent news, but they had also been away from home for about three months because they had travelled to France and England. I went to bed around 9:30 pm. Astonishingly, I was able to fall asleep so easily without binge drinking. I wondered if that was the healthiest night of sleep I had had in the past six months.
