A Movie and a Night of Drinks

I went to the movie theater Yokogawa Cinema and watched Mumei no Jinsei (An Anonymous Life). It was surreal and reminded me of a David Lynch film. I enjoyed it very much and teared up a bit. The film ended at 5:30 pm, and I entered the bar Taiko, which was located right in front of the theater. It was my first visit, but the atmosphere was nice. I had broiled anago with a teriyaki-style sauce, or something like that. I received a message from my mother, so I returned to my hometown. I joined my mother and her friend Fujita-san for drinks. We went to the bar LDK and then to the bar Maruta. They had already eaten enough at the bar Birdman, so we mainly just drank. I did not know their relationship went back over 27 years. I do not know why, but we ended up going to Fujita-san’s house. I met her husband, Hiroshi-san, for the first time. He is an intelligent person and told us some interesting stories. Once upon a time, he had a contract with Sogo (one of the biggest department stores in Japan), but when Sogo collapsed, he suffered a loss of over 30,000,000 JPY (about 170,000 EUR). After that, his salary was reduced due to his responsibility. My mother and I left around 12:30 am, and I fell asleep just after 1:30 am.

Heads-up! These aren't journal entries – they're crafted essays written in English.
Thoughtful, personal, and cross-cultural.
