A Local Summer Gathering
My health condition improved dramatically. I felt as if I had become 10 years younger. Around 4 pm, I went to a community center. I met an American woman named Jessica, who came from the Iwakuni military base. We prepared BBQ ingredients together. The BBQ started at 5 pm. Yamasaki-san also came. There were about 30 or 40 people. I tried to talk with men around my age about the current situation in Japan, such as salaries and the cost of living. I washed a lot of cooking utensils to help clean up after the party. I believe that doing things others avoid is worthwhile. After that, Yamasaki-san, Inoue-san, Iku-chan, and my mother came to my parents’ house. We talked about Hiraoka-san, who is planning to run for city council. They said he is strange because he has no campaign promises and no clear vision of what he wants to do. I cooked mapo tofu, which Inoue-san had requested. I was happy when he said it was tasty. Iku-chan told us about the black company (a dental clinic) where she works. We talked endlessly and ended up finishing just after 1 am. I fell asleep around 2 am. I want to applaud myself for keeping my rule of not eating within two hours before sleeping.
