A Happy and Terrible Day
Fortunately, my lost baggage was returned! It happened so quickly that I was happy. I gave the landlords a small gift from my lost baggage. I withdrew cash for rent and bought groceries at a supermarket. I also bought some flowers, gerberas. I did the laundry twice. I managed to get my room tidy. In the evening, I went to My Way. I met Ruud, Hilco, Rob, Louisa, and others. I bought beer for Ruud and Hilco. I caught up with Louisa on recent events. I asked her if I could buy a special glass featuring a local Castricum design. She said I would have to ask Rob, the bar owner. However, when I was leaving, she slipped the glass into my tote bag. “I did not see anything.” I burst out laughing. It must be her signature way of handling things with style. After returning home, I met my housemate, Vanshika. I gave her a small gift: individually packaged miso soup. She was cooking for a long time, just as she had done before, so I finally spoke up about it. “You spend too long cooking. It stresses me out. This is not your private kitchen.” I felt bad about having to say that. I cooked spaghetti for dinner. While I was eating, the resin filling in one of my back teeth, which had been treated in Japan, came out. Why do these problems always happen just after I arrive in the Netherlands? If I were in Japan, I could get it treated easily and cheaply, but in the Netherlands, it would be costly and inconvenient. I opened some envelopes from the Dutch Tax Administration. I found an unfamiliar tax assessment demanding a payment of about €400. This was unbelievable, and I had never received such an assessment before. The tooth problem and the money problem made me feel even worse. I drank more and more wine to forget my bad feelings. I do not remember when I fell asleep.
