Starting a New Part-Time Job
I went to Amsterdam at noon to work at a Japanese goods shop. I met Tiara and Camellia, my coworkers. Tiara mainly taught me how to handle payments and other tasks. Everything felt new because I have worked only white-collar jobs for more than twenty years. I felt as if this was what real human work should be. However, the inside of the shop was extremely cold. Why do they not use the heating system? For thrift reasons? At the end of the shift, I spoke with the owner, Margaret. To my astonishment, she told me that the training period is not paid. I was really depressed. It must be insane. I left at 5 pm and visited a bar and a steakhouse. I had a mixed grilled dish. It was only €16. It was good and reasonably priced. I returned home around 8 pm, took a shower, and fell asleep around 10 pm.
