A Chance Encounter at an Izakaya
I went to Hono-yu and took a nap. I saw Zab-G (Splash-splash Old Man), who was trying a new training routine. He talked to me for the first time and invited me to move to the center of the onsen bath. After that, I visited the bar Takomon. Every dish was nice. I noticed a foreign family and asked, “Do you need help?” They wanted to eat ramen, but the bar did not serve it, so I introduced Aeon Mall to them. They were from Australia (which was unexpected because they looked Middle Eastern) and were spending two weeks in Japan. Later, I visited the bar Ajia-tei. I met a couple I had seen once before. They were talking enthusiastically, so I asked what the topic was. They told me they work in the medical industry and were discussing how to teach patient case studies to students. Coincidentally, we were all the same age—43. The wife graduated from a school in the town next to mine. She knows Fukushima-san, who played as a goalkeeper. I was astonished because he and I were on the same soccer team in elementary school. The couple left just after 11 pm, and I chatted with the bar owner. I gave him a copy of my small book to display at the bar. I left before 1 am, but I felt very hungry, so I went to Yoshinoya. I had a small beef bowl for my late-night meal. I fell asleep around 3:30 am, as I waited two hours before sleeping to allow my stomach to settle.
