The Year-end Party
I went to Cafe Yamaneko as usual. It was a productive time for reading. When I left, the cafe owner mentioned to me, “We will close tomorrow. Our regular closing day is the third Sunday of the month.” After that, I went to a dental clinic and got a new crown, which cost 66,000 yen. It was expensive. I then returned home and booked an airline ticket from Hiroshima to Hanoi. Later, I participated in a local year-end party at Yasubei, which was located in front of Itsukaichi Station. There were about forty or fifty people there. I met some interesting individuals, including Inoue-san and Yamasaki-san. The former had experience living in Nanjing, China, and he shared an interesting story with me. Just after 9:00 pm, we moved to a local community center and continued drinking. Inoue-san told me how difficult his work was. He develops paint for cars and studied science, which must be a creative job. We discussed the differences between design and art. Around 11:30 pm, about ten people moved to my parents’ house. I offered them canned silkworms from Korea, which everyone found disgusting, including me. I also served them Advocaat from the Netherlands. In the end, Inoue-san, Yamasaki-san, my mother, and I continued drinking and talking until just before 3:00 am. It was an extremely lively time. Time flew by. I fell asleep just after 3:00 am.
